Specializing in Treatment for Anxiety, Depression, and Relationship Therapy
I work collaboratively with clients to help them become more present and enjoy fulfilling lives.
Anxiety Treatment
Anxiety may involve excessive worry, fear, or physical panic attacks. I provide interventions for several anxiety disorders, including, panic disorder, phobias, generalized anxiety, social anxiety, illness anxiety, and selective mutism. Psychotherapy for anxiety is collaborative and personalized to meet individual needs. I use evidenced-based modalities such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Solution Focused Therapy. Some of the techniques provided may include relaxation exercises, grounding techniques, systematic desensitization, psychoeducation, mindfulness, and ERP (exposure and response prevention).
Obsessive Compulsive Disorder
Obsessive Compulsive Disorder includes intrusive distressing thoughts or images and repetitive behaviors or thoughts. Intrusive thoughts can involve any topic and are disturbing to the person experiencing them. I especially enjoy assisting clients who are experiencing disturbing or taboo intrusive thoughts. Using evidenced based psychotherapy techniques such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP), and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), clients gradually expose themselves to feared situations or thoughts to ultimately reduce overall anxiety. While this might sound intimidating, this process takes place in a supportive environment without any pressure. I am often amazed by my client's bravery.
Trichotillomania and Skin Picking (BFRB)
Body focused repetitive behaviors involve repetitive actions focused on one's body, such as hair-pulling (trichotillomania), skin-picking (Excoriation Disorder), nail biting, and related behaviors. These behaviors can have a significant impact on a person's physical and emotional well-being and are often accompanied by strong urges. I utilize various forms of Cognitive Behavioral treatment, including comprehensive behavioral treatment (ComB), Acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), and habit reversal training (HRT). These approaches involve assessment, self-monitoring, and individualized strategies. The comprehensive behavioral (ComB) model focuses on understanding Sensory, Cognitive, Affective, Motor, and Places (SCAMP) associated with body focused repetitive behaviors.
Depression and mood disorders
Symptoms of depression or bipolar disorder may be experienced alone, or alongside anxiety symptoms. Psychotherapy provides a supportive space to help navigate emotional challenges. We'll explore your thoughts, emotions, and behaviors, using techniques to help you better understand and manage them. The approach is personalized to fit what works best for you, using methods like Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Solution Focused techniques.
Couples and Family therapy
Couples and family therapy offers a supportive setting to strengthen your bond, fostering healthier and more fulfilling relationships. Both couples and family therapy aim to improve communication and resolve conflict. I assist with open communication, mutual understanding, and collaborative problem solving to create a more supportive environment. Family systems, cognitive behavioral, and emotionally focused therapy techniques are often provided.
Child and Adolescent Therapy
I provide psychotherapy to adolescents and children of all ages. Treatment is tailored to meet your child's unique needs and developmental stage, using a blend of approaches like talk therapy, play therapy, and other techniques best suited to their specific situation. Therapeutic strategies may include ERP for OCD, coping skills for depression, or ComB treatment for trichotillomania, among others.
